Dubai Municipality, one of the most techno-savvy public authorities in the emirate, has launched its own WhatsApp number to interact with residents. It’s part of the municipality’s efforts to put to rest rumours circulating about public health and food safety, reports Gulf News.
Residents can send their concerns to 050 1077 799 and within eight hours they will be validated by Municipal officials.
Last year, Dubai Municipality introduced an initiative called Authentic News to confront rumours. It had also set up a helpline on 800 900. The authority had responded to 24 rumours via its call centre since June last year, say officials.
According to the Complaints and Suggestions Section, the most prominent rumours were about cheese, Vimto, chocolate, light-emitting diode (LED) shoes, perfume, and worms in green tea.
