The Huawei Mate 30 series completely rethinks the smartphone experience


Huawei today unveiled its ground-breaking Mate 30 Series at an exclusive launch event in Munich, Germany. It sets new standards in every area from aesthetic design through to hardware engineering and software innovation.

Futuristic iconic handset

Building upon its predecessor, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro features an ultra-narrow notch design and the thinnest of bezels. Its Horizon Display has an 88-degree angle curve for an unparalleled, edge-to-edge immersive viewing experience.

It comes with intuitive side-touch controls replacing the traditional side volume buttons. These can be customised even to double as a dedicated shutter button for taking photos. Furthermore, the in-screen fingerprint scanner and 3D Face Unlock together provide high levels of bio-metric security.

Stand out from the crowd with the phones

The back of the smartphone features an iconic ring design with a quad-camera system. Its DSLR-like camera design makes you the focus of the crowd. Additionally, the phone retains Huawei’s Acoustic Display technology to bring you sound from its display.

Second generation 5G smartphone

Huawei’s Mate 30 Series is powered by its Kirin 990 series chipset, Its 5G variant challenges the limits by incorporating a three-level power efficiency architecture for the CPU, Huawei’s Da Vinci NPU as well as a supersized 16-core GPU. In combination, this delivers super-fast performance and high-power efficiency. The chipset supports both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) modes with dual-SIM and dual-standby capabilities. Furthermore, it also comes optimised for ultimate OS performance, featuring 14 5G antennas to deliver ground-breaking speed.

The Mate 30 series is building on Huawei’s past success

In terms of battery life, the Mate 30 sports a 4,200mAh cell whereas the Mate 30 Pro has a 4,500mAh one. Its TÜV Rheinland certified 40W Supercharging returns but now, the Mate 30 series also supports 27W wireless Supercharging for safe and fast charging overall. In addition, Huawei’s reverse wireless charging capabilities from last year also see an upgrade.

SuperSensing Cine camera

The Huawei Mate 30 equips a SuperSensing triple-camera, made up of a 40MP SuperSensing camera, 16MP ultra wide-angle camera and an 8MP telephoto camera. With an ISP 5.0 image signal processor, the Huawei Mate 30 allows users to capture high quality photographs and videos. On the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, there is a revolutionary quad-camera system with a 40MP Cine camera, 40MP SuperSensing camera, an 8MP telephoto camera and a 3D depth sensing camera. The SuperSensing Cine camera is a dual-main camera system which takes pictures that rival high-end cameras.

The phone retains the Huawei P30 Pro’s RYBY sensor

It has a large 1/1.54-inch sensor size to capture videos with an extended dynamic range at 4K/60fps as well as ultra slow-motion at the highest 7680 fps. There is also support 4K low-light ultra-wide time-lapse video and pro-bokeh capabilities while recording for professional looking results. Additionally, the second of the dual-camera system is a 1/1.7-inch Huawei SuperSensing camera which attracts 40 per cent more lights to deliver stunning results in low light conditions.

The 8MP telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom and up to 10x digital zoom. With EIS (electronic image stabilisation) and OIS (optical image stabilisation), it makes for the complete package. A front-facing 3D depth sensing camera is also capable of delivering pro-bokeh effects for more accurate depth-of-field in selfies and portraits.

Faster and more engaging

The Huawei Mate 30 Series features a range of new features that deliver an amazingly smooth and engaging user experience. Its improved EMUI 10 operating system brings an upgraded magazine inspired layout, dark mode and AI gesture control. Huawei’s HiCar feature also makes connectivity between the phone and your car seamless.

Availability and pricing

The 6.53-inch Huawei Mate 30 Pro and 6.62-inch Huawei Mate 30 come in green, silver, purple and black while green and orange are available in a special vegan leather.

The entire lineup of available colors

The Mate 30 will be available starting at €799 (Dh3,246.8) whereas the Mate 30 Pro will available starting at €1,099 (Dh4,465.9). The 5G variant will retail for €1,199 (Dh4,872,2). Keep in mind, these prices do not reflect how the phone may be priced here. Last year, Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro was priced at €1,099 (Dh4,465.9) in Europe but sold here for Dh3,299. So we will have to wait for official local pricing and availability information.
