Last year we saw the launch of the Moto Z and the Moto Z Play from Lenovo and Motorola Mobility. Now, the successors of the popular devices are here: the Moto Z2 Force and Moto Z2 Play. The 2016 Z series let users augment the devices with the help of optional Moto Mods. These accessories helped extend the capabilities of the smartphones via external speakers, battery packs or even projectors to name a few. With the new phones, we also see new mods such as a gamepad and a 360-degree camera.
Moto Z2 Play: Thinner, lighter and faster
The Z2 Play comes encased in an all-metal unibody design with a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display. The phone runs on a 2.2GHz octa-core processor with a 3,000mAh battery with Turbo Charging included.
The cameras aren’t too bad either with a 12MP main shooter and a 5MP front camera. With the combination of laser auto-focus and dual auto-focus pixel technologies on the Z2 Play, sharper photos can be captured with ease, even in low light. The front camera comes with a dual flash, so you know your selfies are definitely going to be bright.
The Moto Z2 Play offers some great Moto features too. There’s Night Display, which automatically adjusts your screen to warmer tones at night to help you sleep better. Improved Moto Voice functionality provides helpful information such as weather or calendar updates. It can also automatically launch apps on demand, completely hands-free.
The Moto Z2 Play retails at Dh1,999 and comes bundled with the Moto 360 camera.
Moto Z2 Force Edition: Protected, polished and powerful
The Moto Z2 Force is named so because of the shatterproof screen it comes equipped with. The screen is a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED, also housed in a slim all-metal unibody design. This powerhouse of a device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset and 4GB of RAM.
Unlike the Z2 Play, the Z2 Force comes with three cameras. It has dual 12MP shooters on the back and a 5MP shooter on the front. The dual 12MP cameras, one monochrome and one colour, work together to capture high-quality photos and allow users to add a blur effect to the background or foreground and capture true depth of field.
The Moto Z2 Force retails at Dh2,699 and comes bundled with one of the following mods: the JBL Sound boost 2 Speaker, a Moto GamePad or the TurboPower Mod.
Moto Mods: What’s new and exciting?
First off, we have the Moto 360 Camera that snaps on and you’re good to go. It turns any of the Z devices into a 360-degree camera that captures everything. You can even record interactive 360-degree 4K video with 3D audio. It is available seperately at Dh999.
Next we have the Moto gamepad. This little beauty of a Mod allows you to transform your device into a handheld gaming console. It comes with dual control sticks, a D-pad and action buttons to play your way through a multitude of games. So far, the pad supports Real Racing 3, Rayman Adventures and Sonic the Hedgehog, to name a few. The gamepad is available at Dh399.
Last, but not the least, we have the Moto TurboPower Pack. With 3,490mAh of power, it instantly adds a day of extra battery life to your device and can be charged super fast as well – up to 50 per cent capacity in just 20 minutes. The battery pack retails at Dh299.
