Will foldable smartphones pick up pace in 2020?

After an underwhelming first launch, it looks like the re-launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is going much better. The foldable phone is selling in various markets with it having arrived in China today.

Sold out in 5 minutes

According to Samsung’s Weibo account, all units of the Galaxy Fold were sold out within 5 minutes. Priced at CNY15,999 (Dh8,399.25), that is well over the Dh7,399 price tag that the device retails for in the UAE.

Our first look at Samsung’s Galaxy Fold

The South Korean manufacturer did not reveal how many phones were made available to the Chinese market. But to be honest, we do not expect the number to be very high.

Specification overview

With such a premium price tag, you get a 7.3-inch foldable Dynamic AMOLED screen and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor inside. It comes in only one configuration, which is with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of in-built storage. There are three cameras on the back of the device, two on the inside and one above the secondary 4.6-inch AMOLED panel on the outside of the Fold.
