Unpacked is arguably one of the biggest events for flagship phone launches and this year, the excitement might be two-fold. While Samsung has not yet announced it, the event will seemingly take place on February 11 in California, USA. And we might be seeing more than just Samsung’s flagship lineup for 2020.

Expect the Samsung Galaxy S20 series and Fold 2

In an unlisted video posted by Samsung Korea on Samsung’s Vimeo account, we can see the animation of the event teaser in full. This was first spotted by a Twitter user and ever since then, has gone viral.

In the video, you can see two squares wrapped in plastic spelling out the word ‘GALAXY’. From the two squares, it is clear that Samsung is planning two major launches at the event. The first square looks a lot like the square camera unit found on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the highest-end model of the series. The second square looks to tease Samsung’s clam-shell style Galaxy Fold 2, which according to rumours will be a more affordable foldable smartphone.

Is the date final?

Both February 11 and February 18 were in contention for when Samsung’s first Unpacked event of the year may happen. But this leak seems to confirm the earlier date. And knowing how close we are to the phone’s launch, February 11 may be the real deal. In either case, both the rumoured February dates are before Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020, which runs between February 24-27. A few years ago, Samsung used MWC as a stage to announce Galaxy phones however in recent years, it has preferred to have its own blockbuster event to focus on its products. That being said, it should not be too long before the South Korean manufacturer confirms the event with its time and location.

Specification round-up

While nothing concrete on the Galaxy Fold 2 has surfaced, a lot can be said about the Galaxy S20 series. There will apparently be three models, namely the Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra, all of which will be powered by either Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 processor or the Exynos 990 depending on region. The S20 Ultra is also supposed to feature a 108MP main camera, but the other models too will bring considerable improvements in camera performance.
