Realme just announced its debut in the UAE with three new smartphones. Its C2 budget smartphone, 5 Pro mid-ranger and flagship X2 Pro. We got a chance to take an early look at its X2 Pro. It has all the makings of competing with the best on paper. But what are its main features?

90Hz AMOLED display

Coming in at 6.5-inches, the X2 Pro has a Super AMOLED display protected with Gorilla Glass 5. It has HDR10+ certification and 100 per-cent DCI-P3 colour coverage. Paired with the Dolby Atmos powered stereo speakers on the phone, it can make a nifty multimedia companion.

Do you make your decision on a smartphone based on its screen’s refresh rate?

Given its 90Hz panel, navigating through the Colour OS 6.0 user interface is snappy. This is especially so considering the phone is also powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Plus octa-core processor, 12GB RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. You can tweak both the refresh rate and colour temperature of the panel in the settings but its factory defaults have seemed to work well so far.

50W SuperVOOC Flash Charge

Inside, the phone has a 4,000mAh battery. But because it is capable of recharging quickly, it may have an edge over the competition.

Realme uses Oppo’s recharging technology

Using the 50W charger provided out of the box, the battery can go from 0-100 per-cent in 35 minutes. We are currently testing this but so far, initial results have been impressive, with the phone charging fully in less than that. While this is a great feat, something to test is also battery endurance. Whether or not the battery drain and health of the phone is impacted negatively in the long run is something we will find out.

Quad-camera setup

Just like the rest of the phone’s hardware, its quad-camera sounds great. There is a 64MP primary lens, accompanied by a 13MP telephoto one with 2x optical zoom, an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP depth sensor. In particular, we are excited to test the phone’s ‘Ultra 64MP mode’ and its ability to record 4K video.

Can the phone’s quad-camera setup keep up with the competition?

However, if you look at the overall hardware package, there are some sacrifices. The phone does not come with official water/dust resistance nor is there support for wireless charging.

Pricing and availability

Realme’s C2 offers a mega battery and display with a configuration of 2GB RAM and 32GB storage starting at Dh399. Its 5 Pro focused on its 48MP quad-camera retails for a starting price of Dh799 with 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage. Lastly, the Realme X2 Pro is available in the UAE for Dh1,999 but just for January 13, starting at 18:00, the phone will be available in a flash sale for a special price of Dh1,799.
