Oppo Reno 10x Zoom: Hands-on impressions

The Oppo Reno we have been waiting for

Following our Oppo Reno coverage, this is Oppo’s Reno 10x Zoom. While it offers a similar design with the bezel-less display and the pivot-hinge, there are some changes. These are mainly with the phone’s feel in the hand, internals and optics.

Triple-camera with up to 60x zoom

With the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom comes a triple-camera 48MP, 13MP periscope and 8MP ultra-wide setup. In combination, this allows the phone’s optics to be more versatile. Additionally, the camera boasts 5x optical zoom and 10x lossless zoom. But more impressively, you can zoom into a subject up to 60x which is not possible on any other smartphone.

We are looking forward to putting the triple-cameras to the test

Software wise, the camera suite offers portrait mode, a dedicated night mode and 4K video recording. With the phone’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor, 4K video recording at 60fps is also possible. Of course, the front pivot-hinge is where you will find the 16MP selfie shooter.

Hardware and software

The processor on the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom combines with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage giving you a true flagship like experience. All across the board, the phone is snappy and can run the most intensive of applications. And priced at Dh3,299 officially, that is to be expected.

The pivot-hinge is unlike any design we have seen

On the front, the phone comes with a 6.6-inch Gorilla Glass 6 protected FHD+ AMOLED panel rated at 60Hz. Its bezel-less design is particularly impressive and makes you enjoy content. Furthermore, the dual-stereo speakers are a huge bonus for more holistic sound. But with all of the good comes a slight learning curve. While the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom runs Android 9 Pie, it has a heavy proprietary Color OS 6 skin which takes a time to get used to. Although it does not hinder performance in any way.

Even at 6.6-inches, the curves of the phone make it manageable in the hand

If there is one drawback at this price though, it is that the phone does not have any official IP water or dust resistance. But aside from the that, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom retains a unique design that is manageable even at this size. The in-screen optical fingerprint scanner is comfortable and reliable to use and out of the box, you also get quite a few accessories including a premium feeling case and a pair of headphones.

What should you look forward to?

The obvious changes on the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom come with optics and internals. And for those, we will be putting the phone through its paces with comparisons. But other than that, we are also excited about the 4,065mAh battery to see how much of an improvement it brings.
