It is no surprise that the next OnePlus flagship will feature a 120Hz Fluid Display. The display technology was announced earlier this week. Since then, the company has been teasing it all over social media.
Custom-made MEMC chip
Pete Lau has taken to Twitter to show off the difference between the company’s 120Hz Fluid Display and a conventional 60Hz panel.
From the video, it is clear that the newer display technology is indeed much smoother. However, the comparison would have been even more interesting against OnePlus’ own 90Hz panel. That way, we would know exactly how big of a jump it may bring.
In addition, Lau has also confirmed that OnePlus’ next flagship will enable motion interpolation. In simple terms, this means you can watch a 30fps or 60fps video with the phone capable of creating additional frames to simulate a higher frame rate. This is done through a custom-made MEMC chip on the device and is a common feature among high-end televisions. However in the past, this technology has been frowned upon by many because it alters the intended experience of the viewer.
When will we see it action?
With OnePlus already teasing its flagship display features, it may not be long before we see its next flagship. Presuming it is called the OnePlus 8 Pro, it is expected to come with a punch-hole style display, a quad-camera and a relatively unchanged exterior design. As always, we can expect high-end internals including Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 octa-core processor, 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. Like every year, May seems to be the time OnePlus will unveil its flagship. But with the company teasing so many of its potential features, it may be sooner than that. Knowing OnePlus, we may even get a sneak peak of it at MWC next month.
