After what seemed like weeks of marketing, the OnePlus Nord is finally official. It is the trailblazer to OnePlus’ new ideology which emphasises ‘New Beginnings’. To us, this approach seems fairly similar to when OnePlus launched its first smartphone. Alongside the Nord, we also got to see a new pair of truly wireless buds from the company, called the OnePlus Buds.

OnePlus Nord

Solely from a design perspective, the most striking feature about the device has to be its Blue Marble finish. As a second option, you also get a matte Gray Onyx finish but delving deeper makes you understand why this phone has been much awaited. The front panel of the device is a 6.44-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It supports both sRGB and P3 display modes but not HDR.

The top left corner of the display houses OnePlus’ first dual-selfie camera. It features a 32MP sensor, which is larger than the 16MP one found on the OnePlus 8-series next to a second 8MP 105-degree ultra-wide angle camera. With this, OnePlus claims users will able to snap group selfies without having to use a selfie stick. Of course, the same front camera setup gives you support for face unlock however the Nord also features an in-display fingerprint sensor. Continuing along, the smartphone’s primary camera setup comprises of four lenses. The 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor is borrowed directly from the OnePlus 8 complete with OIS however video recording is capped at 4K 30fps, which may be a limitation of the Nord’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G chipset. Filling up the rest of the camera slots, you get an 8MP 119-degree ultra-wide angle camera, a 2MP macro sensor and a 5MP depth sensor.

The OnePlus Nord looks stunning in this Blue Marble finish

Inside, the phone also packs up to 12GB of RAM and a 4,115mAh battery with no wireless charging support. With the OnePlus Nord box, you will get a Warp Charge 30T charger capable of recharging the smartphone to 70 per cent in half an hour through the Type-C USB port. Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack but you could use wired Type-C USB headphones. The phone also does not come with any official water or dust resistance but OnePlus has mentioned that it has gone through a series of rigorous tests.

OnePlus Buds

With companies focusing on TWS earbuds, the OnePlus deliver a wire-free audio experience. The Buds come with impressive Warp Charging speeds giving you 10 hours of playback in just 10 minutes of charging. When fully filled, the Buds and the 430mAh battery in the case offers 30 hours of listening.

You also get Environmental Noise Cancelling for better audio quality on calls with the OnePlus Buds

Internally, there is a 13.4mm dynamic driver inside each bud with Bass Boost and Dolby Atmos options for better audio. Furthermore, the Buds are IPX4 water resistance and support Fast Pair. You can even customise the double-tap and long press gestures on the same.

Pricing and availability

Aside from experiencing the OnePlus Nord in AR, pricing and availability in the UAE remains a mystery. With a new branch to OnePlus, we believe this would have been the perfect opportunity to capitalise on the market. But alas, the OnePlus Nord 5G will launch in Asia and Europe first on August 4. The phone will start at €399 (Dh1,683.78) for the 8GB/128GB variant in Europe and ₹24,999 (Dh1,231.95) for the 6GB/64GB variant in India. The OnePlus Buds in White will be available for $79 (Dh290.17) on July 27 with the Grey variant retailing in August. An exclusive Nord Blue variant will also be available exclusively in Europe and India.
