Usually, we expect OnePlus’ first batch of flagships to go official sometime in May. However with the OnePlus 8 series, this may be different. In the past, we have heard that the phones may launch earlier than expected this. And TechRadar India has now confirmed that with the series set to be unveiled mid-April.
Trio of smartphones
Aside from confirming the smartphone’s display technology, information about the OnePlus 8 series has been kept firmly under wraps. But from prior leaks, we know that there will be three smartphones this year. The 8 and 8 Pro alongside a Lite model.
The Lite model may be aimed at consumers wanting high-end specifications without the bells and whistles of higher refresh rate display technology. As we know, with every iteration and update, OnePlus seems to slightly hike the prices of its flagship smartphones. And this year, the series is rumoured to come with IP water and dust resistance which could be an added cost. Therefore, the Lite variant could very well be reminiscent of the original OnePlus One from back in the day.
OnePlus usually holds its Indian and global launch events simultaneously and this could the case this year too. However, with scares of Coronavirus, things may be different. Manufacturers are unveiling their smartphones through online events and we may see a similar implementation from OnePlus. Who remembers their virtual reality (VR) event for the OnePlus 2?
