You shouldn’t be embarrassed if this headline caught you off-guard. Nokia isn’t dead, has never been. However, Windows Phone is on its deathbed. The Finnish brand has fought to stay relevant with a slew of Android phones and even a relaunch of its classic 3310. The 3, 5 and 6 models have had a tepid market response so far this year. Now, the flagship Nokia 8 is coming out July 31.

There’s been some debate recently as to the naming of Nokia’s long-awaited flagship. According to a Scandinavian retailer, the flagship will be called Nokia 8, release on July 31 with a price tag of €589 (about Dh2,480). That’s definitely a flagship-level price tag. Take the follow specs of the Nokia 8 with a grain of salt. They’re merely rumors that have been making the rounds recently but as always, more than likely to be true.

Nokia 8: Specifications

The Nokia 8 will be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB of RAM and a 5.3-inch QHD display. Sounding good so far. Internal storage will go up to 64GB, no news on whether it’ll be microSD expandable, though it’s a fair assumption it will be. Nokia continues to follow the flagship trend of the year with a dual-lens 13MP rear camera. Some leaked images corroborate this and also show a dual LED flash situated under the lenses. The same slew of leaked images confirmed a USB Type-C port (let the Type-C takeover continue) along with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Nokia loves nostalgia so it would seem off-putting if they were to get rid of it. Expect four colours at launch: Blue, Steel, Gold/Blue and Gold/Copper.

It’s possible the naming system will be more creative, more than the name of the phones at least. A new Nokia phone still garners excitement in certain tech circles, ours being one of them. The phone will be out soon and we’ll keep you updated on which rumors were true and weren’t.
