A few days ago, WhatsApp announced that by the end of 2016 it would put a stop to its services on Blackberry devices, even the ones running Blackberry 10. Other operating systems mentioned in the same blog were Nokia’s S40 and Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and 2.2, as well as Windows Phone 7.1.
The blog pointed to changing technology trends as the primary driver behind this decision; back when the messenger service was launched in 2009, everything was still Blackberry and Nokia. However, these platforms are now incapable of providing the services required to expand the capabilities of the app in the future.
WhatsApp still runs on Priv
Few will be affected aside from the few remaining BB loyalists. In the scenario that you absolutely need to have a BlackBerry but can’t live without WhatsApp either, your best option is the Android-based Priv.
