Oppo has been showing this side of the world, especially the UAE, its importance to the company for a few weeks now. At the 5G MENA 2019 summit held in Dubai from April 7-9, 2019, Oppo announced its collaboration with Etisalat to bring a 5G-connected future to the region.
Oppo Reno in the UAE
On April 17, the Chinese smartphone giant unveiled its new Reno and Reno 10x Zoom in the UAE. Power packed with specifications at competitive prices, the Reno and Reno 10x Zoom are also going to be available on plans up to 24 months with Etisalat.
“Reno represents the evolution of OPPO; it features a brand-new design concept, philosophy, and communication model. This is a smartphone for the people who want to make waves, for the dream-chasers and the trendsetters who value style, innovation, and premium functionality. The UAE is also home to a blossoming 5G ecosystem, with collaboration with leading carriers like Etisalat and Zain users could experience 5G at the earliest,” says Andy Shi, President of OPPO Middle East and Africa
Oppo Reno: Main Features
The Oppo Reno comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, a 6GB+256GB storage option and a 3,765mAh battery. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom on the other hand comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, a 8GB+256GB storage option and a 4,065mAh battery.
Both devices come with Oppo’s own VOOC 3.0 charging, which promises to refuel 70 per cent of the phones’ battery in 30 minutes.
The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition comes with a tri-lens full-focal length capability, including a 48MP HD primary lens, a 13MP telephoto lens and an 8MP wide angle lens.
These cameras work together to achieve a full-focal-length coverage of 16mm-160mm, thus offering 10x hybrid zoom. The primary lens of the Reno 10x Zoom Edition employs optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a closed-loop focusing motor, as well as three different focus modes. The ultra-wide-angle camera of the Reno 10x Zoom Edition offers users a 120-degree wide angle camera.
The new Reno models also come with the Ultra Night Mode 2.0 function, which processes faces and backgrounds separately to offer optimised skin-tone effects to present a more realistic picture in low-light scenarios. The Reno 10x Zoom Edition also supports 4K UHD video recording at 60fps, equipped with OIS as well as EIS.
The Reno comes with the same 48MP main camera but with the super-wide camera and periscopic camera replaced by a 5MP depth camera to enable bokeh effects.
Pivot rising Selfie camera
Both Reno models comes with the same pivot, which rises to produce the 16MP selfie camera as well as the flash for the rear cameras. If you’re worried about the durability of the automatic-mechanism, this motorised Pivot Rising Structure has passed strict quality testing standards and can be used more than 200,000 times without fail.
Oppo says that even if average users use it roughly 100 times a day, it can maintain more than five years of usage. Furthermore, Oppo has designed a drop protection mechanism whereby the phone can sense in real time if the phone is in free-fall, and automatically retract the camera to prevent damage.
Oppo Reno: Pricing and Availability
The Oppo Reno and Reno 10x Zoom are currently on pre-order in the UAE and Saudi for Dh1,899 and Dh2,599 respectively. Sales for both devices will begin on April 22 in the UAE and April 25 in Saudi Arabia.
