Nokia 2 to help grow HMD’s budget market-share

A budget phone with a monster battery

HMD Global has been making a serious push with its Nokia branded phones. We got a taste of the Nokia 8 not too long back. If the latest rumors are to be believed, Nokia will have a budget phone too, coined the Nokia 2. The Nokia 2 (images come via reliable tech leaker Evan Blass)will round up Nokia’s 2017 phone range quite nicely with the flagship Nokia 8 and the mid-range Nokia 3, 5 and 6.

Nokia 2

Nokia’s cheapest offering?

The Nokia 2 is the most generic looking entry-level phone ever made. We have no details on specs or price but assume it’s way down there with the most basic level smartphones meant for emerging markets. If you’re holding your breath for a bezel-light entry level phone, we aren’t there yet.

The leaked images are clearly official renders. Notice the date below the clock, it’s set to October 5th. Renders usually match dates and time as per its expected launch so rest assured we’ll know more on the 5th of October. The Nokia 3 is practically a budget phone so we can use it as a benchmark to guess at what the Nokia 2 would bring. It’s display is a 5-inch 720p screen. On the inside it has 2GB of RAM and a MediaTek processor. With an 8MP rear camera, it can be bought at a very affordable $150 (550.9 Dhs).

Nokia 2- Rumoured Specs

Based on what we know, we can assume the Nokia 2 has a smaller and more unimpressive screen, with a cheaper build and feel. The renders point to a plastic build and it could possibly be powered by Android One. A recent FCC certification uncovered by GSM Arena reveals the Nokia 2 will come with a powerhouse battery, clocking in at 4,000 mAh. That’s 30% more than what Nokia 8 has and unlike any other budget phone. A Nokia phone may once again shine with the promise of unending battery life.
