Wedding photos can feel like an antiquated concept in an age were you can get a 3D-printed model of you and your significant other – and that’s what DOOB has brought to the UAE. The DOOB scanning booth at Dubai World Trade Centre is officially open for business.
Al Yousuf 3D Printing, a subsidiary of Al Yousuf Group, partnered with DOOB, a full-service 3D technology company that creates replicas of you utilizing the latest 3D printing tech. Based in Dusseldorf, Germany, DOOB has established a reputation for itself in digital scanning technology and the concept is currently present in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Berlin, Sydney, Barcelona and Bahrain.
DOOB 3D Technology in Dubai was inaugurated by Helal Al Marri, Director General – Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Director General – Dubai World Trade Centre Authority.
“DOOB is a photo-realistic 3D printed replica of you,” explained Mohamed Iqbal Al Yousuf, Deputy President – Marketing, Al Yousuf Group. “It is basically taking selfies to the next level. It is fun and captures moments in a way like no other.”
DOOB: The process
To create the figurines, you first need to be scanned in the DOOB-licator, a tall booth packed with 66 cameras, to have your 3D images scanned and the size of your figurine chosen. The scans are sent to Germany, from where you can expect to receive the figurine within two to three weeks.
In line with the region’s culture and traditions, DOOB in the UAE will also have an all-women crew who will cater to women and will be involved in every step of the process from the scanning to modeling to printing, if a customer prefers.
The DOOB figurines are available in four-, six-, eight-, ten- and 14-inch sizes. Life-sized figures are also available upon request. Prices start from Dh699 for the four-inch model. The figurines are made of plaster and silicate.
The DOOB concept is now open at the Dubai World Trade Centre outside Hall 7. You could also see the mobile DOOB-licator at events.
