Etisalat Wallet aims to take UAE mobile payments mainstream

Etisalat Wallet

Etisalat recently announced the launch of a new mobile wallet app called Etisalat Wallet. The app has been live for about a week now on the Google Play and App Store. Considering the UAE’s deep mobile penetration, we are yet to use mobile payment technology to its full potential in the country (though Beam is making decent inroads here). Etisalat would like to change that with this digital wallet app that allows consumers to make a variety of payments.

Etisalat Wallet is a digital payment platform that promises to grow with time along with the UAE’s Smart Government initiative. The initiative has identified more than 90 services provided by the government that require digital payment methods and the app is designed to provide these to consumers. However, at launch we’ve seen only a fraction of these services available.

Currently, users are obviously able to make payments for all Etisalat services including adding credit to any prepaid number. Apart from the plethora of the telecom operator’s services, you can also pay for parking in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi as well as make international credit transfers from your Wasel account to any prepaid account in the world.

The Wallet has a rewards scheme as well, similar to the Etisalat mobile app where you earn points with every transaction and can redeem them with Etisalat’s various retail partners, including Careem.

You can easily sign up with your Etisalat number and register a credit card the first time to make future payments seamless. We’ve tinkered with it for a few days now and all available payments went through easily. Have you downloaded or used it yet? Let us know below.
