It may be a smartwatch, but that doesn’t mean Huawei shouldn’t resort to traditional marketing techniques.
For its new Huawei Lady Watch, the Chinese brand has signed Nancy Ajram as ambassador. Celebrities have endorsed brands since at least the 1950s, when actor Bob Hope advertised American Express credit cards.
The watch was launched at CES earlier this year. It’s one of two bits of Android wrist candy that’s blingy enough for a blind date, what with Swarovski crystals and rose gold. The international retail prices are $499 for the Huawei Watch Elegant and $599 for the Watch Jewel, which Ajram wears.
Ajram made her first international appearance for the brand at Arab Fashion Week in Dubai this week. The Arab singer wore the watch in question and posed prettily on the red carpet and front row during the Huawei show, where Italian designer Laura Mancini showcased her Ready-Couture line.
“We were thrilled to have Nancy Ajram at the second edition of Arab Fashion Week,” said Arab Fashion Council CEO Jacob Abrian. “Having her here is a testament to the standards we are setting for creativity, design and fashion across the region. As Huawei’s Brand Ambassador and a style icon, she represents the synergy between innovation, style, technology and fashion, which is exactly what we are looking to capture with the fall-winter Ready-Couture collections we will see at AFW.”
And that’s your gratuitous read for the weekend. You’re welcome.
