The LG G7 ThinQ is here… and it’s just so LG

Earlier today, LG announced the launch of its G7 ThinQ smartphone. As expected, this model is deemed to be the flagship model for LG this year. So let’s jump right in.

What is the LG G7 ThinQ?

The LG G7 ThinQ is the South Korean tech giant’s flagship smartphone this year. Although it’s a little behind its competitors in terms of launch date, it’s finally here.

The AI Cam on the LG G7 in action

To start with, it comes with a 6.1-inch display with a notch inbuilt at the top of its LCD. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor and a solid 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage with a microSD slot, just in case.

As per the norm these days, the G7 comes equipped with a dual-camera system and is also IP68 rated for water and dust resistant. It also supports wireless charging for it’s 3000mAh battery, so that’s a step up.

LG G7 ThinQ: Camera

This device comes with two vertically stacked 16MP cameras on its back, both equipped with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and AI software.

This intuitive AI software in the camera supposedly switches modes depending on the photo subject, be it human, animal, nature, object, etc. Once that’s established, colours, filters and brightness is automatically calibrated for the optimum result. The brightness mode that it uses is called the Super Bright Camera. Here it takes a dark image or video and brightens it by 4 times at the cost of resolution.

The dual-lens setup pairs a regular lens with a speedy f/1.6 aperture along with a wider lens capable of a 107-degree field of view designed for ultra-wide and panoramic shots. The front shooter has been upgrade as well, sporting a hefty 8MP.

LG G7 ThinQ: Others

The G7 ThinQ comes with a powerful speaker it’s calling the Boombox that supposedly provides larger audio and deeper bass.

LG’s integration of AI tech is obviously present in other aspects besides the camera. For starters, it has a dedicated digital assistant button, which thankfully summons Google Assistant and not Bixby. Google worked with LG to improve the Ai by adding a few custom phrases such as “Take a photo with low-light mode,” or “Open the camera with AI Cam.” None of these are ground breaking but at least it’s a start.

LG G7 ThinQ: Pricing and availability

As of now, there aren’t any details on availability in the UAE, but stay tuned for more news.
