In recent years, Sony has become one of the pioneers in noise-cancellation headphones and earphones. The new refreshed Sony WF-1000XM3, compared to the WF-1000X that preceded it, looks to deliver on the same by introducing smart noise-canceling features and a refined body.
So what’s new?
The new WF-1000XM3 at first glance looks quite pleasing. With its clean and sleek design, it may already be on top of many people’s wish lists. Apart from just good looks, it’s also packed with features.
To start off, there is a capacitive touch sensor on the surface that provides various functionalities with different gestures. This seems to be surprising move from Sony considering the polarising topic that touch-sensitive sensors are when it comes to the company’s over-ear headphones.
That includes the often-used finger/hand over the earphone gesture to pipe ambient sound through for when someone walks up to talk. Sony claims the real magic happens in its Headphones Connect app. The app will offer the company’s Adaptive Sound Control, which is able to detect your surroundings and appropriately enhance important noises such as the honking of a car or train announcements while waiting on the platform.
Sony WF-1000XM3: Specifications

Each earbud weighs less than 9g and the case is 77g. Sony says charging the earbuds takes up to 1.5 hours to get up to six or eight hours’ playback with noise-cancellation turned on or off respectively.
