What’s new?

The newer Mate 9 comes with a faster Kirin 960 processor and 4GB of RAM improving upon the Kirin 950 processor but retaining the same amount of RAM as its predecessor. A significant change comes in the dual-camera set-up on the Mate 9 for better zoom capabilities with improved Leica optics. The ability to record 4K video at 30fps is also new as the older Mate 8 was capable of only Full HD video.

The slightly smaller 5.9-inch display allows for a slight reduction of the metal unibody frame and EMUI 5.0 has been made more intuitive running on top of the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. Here, the new GPU can also take advantage of the Vulkan graphics standard delivering up to a 400% performance boost yet remaining 40% more efficient than its predecessor. At this efficiency, the 4,000mAh battery is a welcome addition especially with Huawei’s SuperCharge Technology claiming to deliver a full day’s charge in 20 minutes.
