HP’s new laptops focus on 5G and improving security

Which of HP's new laptops would you choose?

At the ongoing CES, HP has announced a bunch of PCs, displays and accessories. But the refreshed HP Spectre x360 15 and the Elite Dragonfly G2 laptops are the most noteworthy. The new Spectre comes with slimmer bezels whereas the Elite Dragonfly G2 is the first laptop with a built-in Tile tracker.

Picking up on the improvements made to the smaller Spectre x360 13, the 15-inch variant has smaller bezels, a better trackpad and a thinner design. It also comes with a 13 per-cent smaller footprint yet is able to retain its 15.6-inch 4K OLED display with a 90 per-cent screen-to-body ratio.

Inside, the laptop comes with up to a 10th generation Intel Core-i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce graphics. HP also promises up to 17 hours of battery life and nearly three times faster file transfer speeds thanks to Intel’s Wi-Fi 6 technology. Security being the focus of this machine, it comes with HP’s smallest IR camera at 2.2 mm and a dedicated web-camera kill switch, mute microphone button and fingerprint reader. To improve security online, the laptop also features LastPass and ExpressVPN out of the box. But with regulations on VPN use in the UAE, we are not sure if the provision of the latter would be applicable to local units.

HP Elite Dragonfly G2

This is HP’s first business convertible with 5G connectivity. Thanks to its Qualcomm X55 4G/5G modem, it can support this next-generation network and also comes with smart signal technology to boost antenna performance. It sees an upgrade to specifications with up to a 10th generation Intel Core-i7 processor, 16GB RAM and 2TB PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSDs. To top it off, you find a 13.3-inch display with both Full HD and 4K options.

The unique thing about the Elite Dragonfly G2 is support for Tile. With Tile’s built-in location tracking service, you can easily tap into Tile’s network of connected trackers to help locate your lost laptop. Its a nifty feature and this laptop becomes the first in the world to come with it in-built.
