Yesterday, at GITEX Technology Week 2019, General Motors announced that its in-vehicle safety and security system, OnStar, will be arriving to the Middle East next year. The ‘membership-based’ service will be a first of its kind service in the UAE.
What is OnStar?
So OnStar is basically a service that will come pre-installed in your GM car. At the push of a button, there will be an OnStar Advisor available for your almost any need you might have while on the road.
An On-Star advisor could be helping you with a location, flat tires, theft, crashes, diagnostic support, knowing a loved one has reached home and so much more. OnStar Advisors are fully trained to provide a breadth of standard and emergency services to members including Automatic Crash Response, Emergency Services, Roadside Assistance, Connected Navigation, On-Demand Diagnostics, Remote Key Lock and Unlock. OnStar bring a real person whose job is to make journeys on the road more safe and secure.
In your car the OnStar service will be located above the rear view mirror and have three buttons. A blue one for non-emergency calls, an SOS button and a privacy button which will enable location services to switch off when necessary.
In the event of an emergency the safety service can be activated by simply pressing the red button placed on the rear-view mirror in General Motors’ Chevrolet, Cadillac or GMC vehicles, or through the Automatic Crash Response feature, directly connecting members in just a matter of seconds to an Advisor trained to support across a variety of situations. OnStar in the UAE
Recent research conducted by RoadSafetyUAE, experts on traffic safety in the region, has found that motorists still feel like the roads are dangerous in the UAE, with high levels of dangerous and distracted driving.
Launching the service in the region aims to help safety on the roads and support drivers across their journey via the blue button which dials a human directly into a GM vehicle to support with concierge service, from detailed directions to vehicle diagnostics.

OnStar: Pricing and Availability
