At its E3 2016 keynote, Bethesda Softworks announced that it is releasing last year’s Fallout 4 in VR on the HTC Vive in 2017. Seems like 2016 will be the final year we are merely teased with VR games.
This surprise announcement makes Fallout 4 the first big open-world game to get its own virtual reality upgrade straight from the studio.
Bethesda didn’t let up any more details on how the game mechanics would work and how the HTC Vive’s controllers will fit in but suffice to say if Bethesda’s first foray into big-time VR gaming is through its beloved Fallout series, it’s going to be no less than awesome.
Apart from Fallout 4, Bethesda also mentioned the possibility of Doom coming to VR, though not the entire game but definitely some parts of it. It’s unclear what it is working on as far as Doom is concerned but even a singe Doom campaign in VR would be worth it.
Bethesda has set up VR booths for attendees to play around in what it has currently ready for Doom and Fallout 4. Lucky, lucky people.
