Its finally E3 2018, meaning it’s time for all the latest game launches, announcements and of course, rumours.
EA had its keynote event to kick things off at E3 2018. While the company had already revealed a good amount of games in its pipeline early on, the gaming giant took to E3 2018 to make some surprising announcements. Here are some of the top ones.
Battlefield V Battle Royale mode
Following in the footsteps of popular games such as Fortnite and PUBG, EA’s famous first-person shooter series Battlefield will be receiving a Battle Royale mode for Battlefield V‘s multiplayer mode. In this mode, players will have to play to be the last man standing in the World War-based map, just like in an actual warzone. We also got to see a new trailer showcasing multiplayer gameplay and some detail about the game’s single-player War Stories.
Anthem confirmed for February 22, 2019
Mass Effect developer Bioware confirmed its latest title Anthem will be coming to the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on February 22. The new single-player and co-op game will be set in the future where players don powerful mech suits called Javelins. The Ranger, Colossus, Interceptor and Storm are the Javelins players can choose from and change at any time, depending on their play style. Players will have to navigate through storms and violent mutations, in a Destiny-like fashion to complete missions. Bioware also mentioned that the story of Anthem is written in a way where developers can add more for the years to come.
Star Wars: Fallen Jedi and Battlefront 2 updates
Not much has been revealed about the Respawn-developed Star Wars: Fallen Jedi as of now. However, we do know that the single-player story will be set following the events of Revenge of the Sith and during the hunt for Jedis. Oh and yes, you can use a lightsaber in the game.
Additionally, we will also see new content for Battlefront 2. These new items will playable characters from the Clone Wars such as Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku, General Grievous and Obi-Wan Kenobi. We might also get a Solo-themed expansion pack, which could feature new environments and a Starfighter mode.
Yarny is coming back with a sequel to the successful Unravel, and this time he is not alone. Unravel 2 will introduce a new character that players can control along with Yarny or play co-op. This sequel will be “friendlier, more challenging and more playful” than its predecessor. Unravel 2 was not only announced at the keynote but also released immediately on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Command & Conquer comes to mobile
EA also demoed a live battle of its first and upcoming mobile title, Command and Conquer: Rivals during the EA Play conference. The game will be heavily focused on strategy. Android users can try out the pre-alpha build, which is now available for download. It marks the return for the series after the last release in 2012.
No more lootboxes or pay-to-win
EA faced a major backlash last year with Star Wars Battlefront II’s pay-to-win policy where some players could get major advantages in the game by simply paying extra. The company announced that in both Battlefield V and Anthem, players will no longer be able to do so, and any purchases made will be purely cosmetic. EA took this step as an effort to restore fun gameplay as opposed to a pay-for-power method that took away the fun of gaming.
E3 is a stage for major gaming announcements, so stay tuned for more reveals, launches and videos of upcoming titles.
