HTC launches Vive Pro

Dual-OLED vision and the chance to finally go wireless

HTC has just announced a couple of serious hardware upgrades to its VR powerhouse, the Vive at CES 2018. The upgrades are being called the Vive Pro and the Vive Wireless Adapter.

What is the HTC Vive Pro?

It’s the latest VR addition for enthusiasts who want the best of their virtual experiences. The Pro comes with dual-OLED displays with an increased resolution of 2,880 x 1,600. This means enhanced text, graphics and visuals.

Another interesting addition is a pair of built-in, high-performance headphones with an in-line amplifier to offer a more immersive and richer sound. Other improvements include dual microphones with active noise cancellation and dual front-facing cameras.

What is the HTC Vive Wireless Adapter?

The adapter will be the first truly wireless VR headset integration device for both Vive and Vive Pro. It features Intel’s WiGig technology, which offers lower latency and better performance.

Other announcements from HTC

The Taiwanese tech brand has also upgraded its Viveport portal for VR users. Instead of a traditional 2D catalog, Viveport VR content is delivered in fully immersive interactive previews. This gives users a room-scale preview of an experience and the opportunity to interact with content before purchasing or subscribing.

HTC also rolled out an upgrade to its native video player, including integration with Vimeo. This means that a curated selection of Vimeo content will be made available to browse and view within Vive Video-compatible headsets.
