There’s always a leak, isn’t there? Someone over at Qualcomm seems to have jumped the gun before instruction. Key details have emerged about the Asus Zenfone AR on a blog post scheduled to be published on January 4.
The post details that the latest from Asus is set to run a Snapdragon 821 octa-core processor from Qualcomm. While Project Tango support for augmented reality (AR) experiences was confirmed prior, the blog also touches upon Daydream support. This would make the Zenfone AR the first to offer both AR and VR together.
A reference was also made to the Daydream View headset and controller, which will not only help users explore new places with apps such as Google Street View but will also help them “dive into their personal VR cinema with YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and HBO”. In addition, the hardware will enhance the gaming experience in titles such as Need for Speed and Gunjack 2.
After Qualcomm having leaked the unique feature set of the device, renowned leakster Evan Blass (@evleaks) has since shared press renders of the upcoming Zenfone AR.
The phone seems to be built well and shows a streamlined finish with some sort of matte finish. Majority of the interest will be on the camera module that the device is equipped with. With the official announcement to come on Wednesday, it will be interesting to see how the company prices the handset. This is a significant departure from just a regular handset and we are excited to see how Asus fares. Are you big on AR and VR experiences? Let us know what you think of the Asus Zenfone AR so far.
