To celebrate its 30-year journey, Asus chairman Jonney Shih took center-stage at Computex 2019 to unveil a series of new and limited edition devices.
Special 30th anniversary lineup
All the products in this lineup feature a special stylized ‘A’ monogram to signify Asus values and history. The ZenFone 6 Edition is first with an iconice Zen-inspired matte-black design featuring a concentric-circle pattern and upgraded specifications. Its RAM capacity is bumped up to 12GB whereas the phone gets 512GB of internal storage.
Otherwise, the phone comes with a 6.4-inch notchless NanoEdge all-screen display protected with Gorilla Glass 6. A groundbreaking flip-out 48MP Sony IM586 main and 13MP ultra-wide secondary make up the phone’s optics for both normal and selfie capture. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 octa-core CPU and a huge 5,000mAh battery.
Asus’ ZenBook Edition 30 is the second product in the lineup and features a genuine leather lid cover and an 18-karat rose gold plated logo. It comes equipped with a complete set of premium accessories including a genuine-leather sleeve and a pearl white mouse. The laptop comes with a 95 per-cent screen-to-body ratio making it the world’s most compact 13-inch form factor, an 8th generation Intel core-i7 CPU and NVIDIA’s GeForce MX250 GPU.
Completing the lineup is the Prime X299 Edition 30 motherboard. This honors the legacy of Asus’ first motherboard with a wealth of features and accessible tuning options. It supports Intel core X-series processors and a flagship 16-stage power solution. There is full support for Thunderbol 3, DisplayPort and high-performance networking with 5G Aquantia Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6.
Asus ZenBook Pro Duo and Duo
This series introduces Asus’ new ScreenPad Plus, a full-width secondary touchscreen to enhance interactive capabilities. It offers creative possibilities for content creators opening doors to easy multitasking. The hardware integrates well with the laptop’s primary display thanks to a dedicated software that provides useful apps and tools.
The Zenbook Pro Duo features a 4K (3840 x 2160) OLED HDR NanoEdge touchscreen and a 4K (3840 x 1100) SceenPad Plus. Paired with it are Intel’s 9th generation processors, 32GB RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2060 GPU. For storage, there is up to 1TB PCIe 3.0 x 4 SSD whereas connectivity is taken care of with Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 3.
In a slightly toned down offering, the ZenBook Duo is also the ideal choice for creatives opting for a 14-inch display. The laptop features the same NanoEdge display ScreenPad Plus features but with a lower Full HD resolution. Inside too, you get Intel’s core-i7 processors and NVIDIA’s GeForce MX250 GPU.
Asus ZenScreen Touch
This is Asus’ solution to a portable monitor. It weighs in at 900 grams and comes with a large 7,800mAh battery to enhance mobile productivity. The screen is an IPS type and features 10-point touchscreen support.
Unique to it, the screen features a hybrid-signal USB Type-C and Type-A connectivity to enable video signal and power transfer over a single cable. This avoids clutter and gives you a more streamlined experience. Equipped with micro-HDMI support, the screen can display content from your laptop, smartphone, camera or console on-the-go.
An early prototype for Asus, this is its aspiration for future high-end desktop motherboards. One of its most salient features is its PCIe slot placement at the back of the board for improved thermals. Therefore, the front of the board has more space for expansion cards and next-generation CPUs to dissipate heat.
The motherboard has integrated water cooling and supports a proprietary Hydra Cortex fan header to improve cooling by allowing connection up to four fans individually. The patent to this fan technology is still pending and Asus is working with partners to develop fans that are compatible.
In addition, the motherboard also features a modular rear I/O for users to pick and choose their own port selection. Whereas a 7-inch full-color OLED panel gives you touch control to modify BIOS settings, fan settings or real-time system statistics via Wi-Fi or cable.
