We had three new iPads launch from Apple this year but none of them were from its iPad Pro series. The iPad Pro 12.9-inch and iPad Pro 11-inch from back in November 2018 is what is in store currently. But two new iPad Pro variants are expected to be introduced in March 2020.
Both iGeeksBlog and OnLeaks have shared multiple renders showing the 2020 upgrades to Apple’s iPad Pro 12.9-inch and iPad Pro 11-inch. They will be roughly the same size with an upgrade to the rear cameras.
Instead of a single rear camera, the new iPad Pros will have a triple camera design, like on Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. On the phones, the triple unit is made of a regular camera, a telephoto one with 2x optical zoom and an ultra-wide camera. The configuration on the new iPad Pros could be similar. However, it could be that one of the three cameras on the iPad Pro 2020 series is just a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor. This in turn would help with augmented reality content and blurred backgrounds.
Usually, tablets are not known to be used to take photos or videos because of their size. Hence, seeing an advanced triple-camera setup would not make much sense. However, if Apple decides to take the augmented reality route, the feature could be useful. Regardless, as long as the new camera unit does not lead to price hikes, customers will not mind too much. Another uncertainty is with the iPad Pro chassis itself. It is unclear if the lineup will continue to feature metal backs or a glass back. According to OnLeaks, either option is possible as this stage.
We do not think the new iPad Pros will bring a huge upgrade to their display panels. The bigger 12.9-inch panel should sport a 2,048 x 2,732 resolution LCD panel whereas the smaller one should have a 1,668 x 2,388 resolution one. Rumours of Apple working on a mini-LED display while in the wild, seem a bit far-fetched for March next year. If anything, we should see a third iPad Pro with a richer display in the second half of 2020.
Inside, the iPad Pro 12.9-inch and 11-inch should come with at least 4GB of RAM and the high-end A13X Bionic processor currently found on all iPhone 11 variants. Storage variants may vary up to 1TB, just like the last generation but we hope that options for the upcoming tablets start at 128GB or higher.
Apples iPad Pro 12.9-inch and 11-inch retail for Dh3,199 and Dh3,999 respectively. And we can safely assume that the new 2020 models will be offered at similar, if not the same prices.
