Apple updates the MacBook Pro line with new features and increased performance


Apple has issued updates to its MacBook Pro line of laptops with increased performance across the board and a host of new features.

MacBook Pro: New Specs

The updated MacBook Pro models will feature Intel’s 8th-gen processors. The 15-inch model will have an option with a 6-core i7 or i9 processor, boasting up to 70 percent faster performance. It will have up to 32GB of DDR4 memory, packing in up to 4TB of SSD storage and a new Retina Display with True Tone technology, the Touch Bar and Touch ID. On the graphics front, Apple has gone with the Radeon Pro discrete card with 4GB of video memory in every configuration.

The 13-inch model will get a quad-core processor with choices between the i5 and i7 processors, boasting up to 2x faster performance. It will pack in up to 2TB of SSD storage and a new Retina Display with True Tone technology, the Touch Bar and Touch ID. On the graphics front, Apple has chosen the Intel Iris Plus integrated graphics 655 with 128MB of eDRAM.

“The latest generation MacBook Pro is the fastest and most powerful notebook we’ve ever made,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. 


MacBook Pro: New Features

The display, as always, promises to be nothing but the best. Apple has created a Retina Display for the new MacBook Pros with True Tone display. It will have 500 nits of brightness and support for the P3 wide color gamut. True Tone technology helps deliver a more natural viewing experience for while working on design or editing. Even everyday tasks like browsing and email will look better than previous versions.

With a renewed focus on security, Apple is integrating its T2 chip that will enable enhanced system security with support for secure boot and on-the-fly encrypted storage. It will also allow you to open up Siri by simply saying “Hey Siri” for the first time.

MacBook Pro: Back to School

The new line of MacBook Pros will be a part of Apple’s Back to School promotion. It’s available to college students, their parents, faculty and staff through the Apple Education Store. Apple is also throwing in a pair of qualifying Beats headphones with the purchase of any eligible Mac or iPad Pro for college, as well as education pricing on Mac, iPad Pro, AppleCare, select accessories and more.

MacBook Pro: New Leather Sleeve

It’s not all just new hardware. Apple has designed a launched a sleek new sleeve for it’s MacBook laptops as well. It’ll be available for both MacBook Pro models in Saddle Brown, Midnight Blue and Black. The design includes high-quality leather and a soft microfiber lining for extra protection.
