We recently reported that Android Wear 2.0 is just around the corner and will be launching with two flagship devices. Now the prolific technology leaker @evleaks has said LG and Google have entered a Nexus-like partnership. The LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style will be the launch platforms for Android Wear 2.0. The official launch will take place at an event on February 9 with next-day sales in the US, according to marketing material acquired by VentureBeat. With the Mobile World Congress taking place at the end of February, LG will be touting these devices prominently in Barcelona.
LG smartwatch specs
The Watch Sport will be 14.2mm thick with a sleek titanium and a svelte dark blue colour option. The Watch Style is a thinner 10.8mm with swappable straps and available in titanium, silver and rose gold. Both watches will feature plastic OLED displays. The Watch Sport’s screen will measure at 1.38 inches with a 480×480 resolution, versus the Watch Style’s 1.2-inch, 360×360 face. The Watch Sport will pack in 768MB of RAM and the Watch Style will have 512MB. The Watch Sport will also have a larger battery: 430mAh, while the Watch Style will be at 240mAh. Both watches will come with 4GB of internal storage.
Both devices will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features but the Sport will also come with 3G and LTE capabilities. It will also pack in GPS and NFC, allowing use of Android Wear 2.0’s Android Pay capabilities. Both watches will be able to run with iOS devices and also borrow a design concept from the Apple Watch: a digital crown button. The displays will be touch-sensitive and incorporate handwriting recognition.
Amongst the other features you can expect the inclusion of Google Assistant, water and dust resistance (IP68 and IP67 certifications for the Sport and Style respectively). The Watch Sport will also contain a heart rate sensor and will be capable of untethered telephony with the same phone number as a user’s primary handset.
The folks at Techno Buffalo have leaked an image of LG Sport and Style, which are to be unveiled alongside Android Wear 2.0. We can see the rumoured digital crown is present. The watch on the left is supposed to be the LG Sport, a bulky looking device. The one on the right will be the LG Style, a smaller and more “stylish” piece. They look good and our excitement is only ramping up.
