Godfather of Android Andy Rubin teases bezel-less smartphone

The co-founder of Android has given us the tiniest peek at this virtually bezel-less device

Andy Rubin

Andy Rubin is the co-founder of Android, the world’s most used smartphone operating system. In January he announced he will be working on a new, bezel-less smartphone under the banner of a new company called Essential. He promised a premium device with an edge-to-edge screen. This isn’t the most unique concept we’ve heard, with many manufacturers having produced concept phones without a bezel and some even in production with practically no bezel.

Andy Rubin, what’s up your sleeve?

We have now been given a glimpse into what Rubin’s been working on. He tweeted an image of a hand holding the new phone with only one corner visible. From the little that can be seen, Essential’s first smartphone has almost no bezel, runs some version of Android and has at least one physical button.

Rubin defines the word “tease” with this image and his tweet by showing us as little as he could of the phone. From what we can see, the prospect of the phone is quite exciting. Especially coming from someone that played a big part in the genesis of smartphones. There are absolutely no other details yet but hopefully this is one of many to come over the next few months.
