So the one thing that’ll put punters off about the new iPhone 7 is the price. Given that the high-storage 6s Plus costs nearly Dh4,000, what’s Apple doing for the budget-conscious?
A lot, it turns out. Expect to see a new cheap(ish) phone from the tech giant soon after Mobile World Congress and maybe even before the summer, but of course, it’ll cost a little more than a dinner for two. The existence of a new smaller iPhone 6, being dubbed the 5se, is now certain, and it may hit as soon as mid-March, according to Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac, who’s been tracking the story. It’ll reportedly be accompanied by a one-year-anniversary upgrade of the Apple Watch.
What can you expect, then? It’s expected to be primarily an upgraded iPhone 5s, with a faster processor, new camera features, curved glass edges and Apple Pay. They’re expected to include the A9 and M9 chips from the 6 and 6s.
So not only will Siri always be on, but the phones will also apparently have a higher capacity – beginning at 16GB but rising to 64GB. The idea is that the new phone shouldn’t lag so far behind the rumoured iPhone7 that nobody wants it!
An image that appeared on the One More Thing Forum could well be the real deal – they’ve got a history of getting this right.
What all this means is that people for whom size is a problem (we didn’t think there were any!) will be able to get the extra processing power they want with a smaller unit. Like they’re always saying, it’s not how big it is, it’s what you do with it that matters.
As for colours – the phone is reportedly going to come in the same silver, space gray, gold and rose gold colours that the 6s is available in.
