After Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy S7 Edge Injustice Edition, Oppo has come out with a F1 Plus Barcelona Edition. This isn’t the first tie-up between the Chinese phone-maker and the Catalan football club; last year, we reviewed the R7 Plus Barcelona Edition. This time around, Oppo has added a gold-plated logo of the club at the back.
As much as I love the look of Samsung’s Batman phone, we’ve been seeing a trend where phone manufacturers are partnering up with big, loved brands to sell their devices because innovation has dried up and they want to churn out as many phones as they can every year to be at the top of the press cycle. Oppo’s rival Huawei released an Arsenal FC edition P7 device nearly two years ago. But then again, I love the Batman phone and would buy it, and there are people out there who will love the Barcelona phone and buy it. So I have a feeling it’s going to work.
The F1 Plus Barcelona Edition comes in the famed Spanish football club’s blue and red hues with a slick 18k gold-plated club emblem at the back of the phone. You’re definitely going to see a lot of these in Dubai once launched in June. Oppo is also adding a case with printed signatures of some of Bareclona’s shining stars: Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitić and Andres Iniesta.
Let’s talk about the interiors of the phone: The F1 Plus continues to be part of Oppo’s “Selfie Expert” range of phones. It comes packed with a 5.5-inch FHD display and a 16MP front snapper with the rear being only at 13MP. The battery is a very reasonable 2,850mAh and the phone’s powered by a 2GHz MediaTek Helio P10 SoC, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
