Millennials rejoice. Rumblings in the mobile technology industry indicate Nokia is coming back with a bang in the next few months. One of Nokia’s executives, Mike Wang has confirmed that 3-4 new Nokia-branded Android devices will be unveiled sometime in the fourth quarter of this year. Launch of these devices, a mix between smartphones and tablets, are to be expected sometime in 2017.
Earlier this year, the company had announced plans to return to the industry and HMD, a company founded by an ex-Nokia executive was created. It will be designing the devices, and Foxconn will be the manufacturing partner.
If rumours are to be believed, then we can expect the phones to have 5.2-inch and 5.5-inch Quad HD, OLED displays, a possible Snapdragon 820 processor, a 22.6MP rear shooter, and a metal build with water and dust resistance. No word on the tablets yet. The phones are expected to have Android Nougat running straight out of the box as well.
As Nokia’s new marketing chief, Pekka Rentala said, “I love Nokia, I love what it stands for and I’d love to see it rise again.”
Fingers crossed it comes soon and it comes bearing gifts.
