Careem Go is now available to select customers in Dubai

A day after UberX announced its return to Dubai following an agreement with the city’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), arch-rival Careem has struck back.

The homegrown ride-sharing app has launched Careem Go, which it calls its most affordable ride yet. “The service will cost you way less than our Economy cars ;),” the brand said in an email to select customers.

The fare structure for the new option hasn’t been announced yet, although since all ride-sharing services in Dubai are regulated by the RTA, it is expected to fall in line with the new UberX rates.

We reached out to the brand on Twitter and here’s what it said: “CareemGO is a 3-month trial product priced below our Economy service to a select group of customers :).”

Restricted to trials at the moment, the new service is described as the perfect marriage of accessibility and affordability. It does mean, though, that your ride won’t be a classy Lexus ES 350 – rather, you can expect a Toyota Previa to pull up outside the office.

Careem, which recently teamed up with loyalty programme Air Miles, is billing this a move towards better living, better ways to get around for consumers, and more jobs for all types of drivers.

Great to see that the spirit of competition is alive and well in the UAE.
