Fitness, tech, and your fat dog

anifit pet wearable

Before we, meaning I, should warn you, this is a “Why? Why Not?” kinda story. As smarter readers would have deciphered by now, (after the blaring headline and image above) this is a fitness wearable for pets.

Pegged as the world’s first personalised canine fitness monitor, AniFit tracks your pet’s fitness and its weight. The device has been developed with the help of ICT specialists and veterinarians.

Unique to AniFit is its pretest function, which monitors your dog’s daily life routine to custom-tailor an eating and exercise regimen moving forward.

Once the pretest is complete, AniFit will personalise a recommended exercise schedule. The dog’s actual weight loss can be monitored on a graph and compared to daily/weekly/monthly goals set for ideal weight loss.

The smart wearable collar was designed for any dog no matter what breed, size, or weight. It’s incredibly light at 18g and measures in at 51.6×27.6x18mm. It is charged by a micro 5pin cable and has a battery life of 7-14 days. By connecting through Bluetooth 4.0 technology, AniFit is compatible with all iOS versions 8.0 and Android versions 4.3 and above.

For recommended feeding amount, AniFit’s guidelines are based on standards set by The Association of America Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). Ten brands that are often prescribed for weight loss are shown and for all other brands AniFit will ask the user to input the nutrition facts. If one of the nutrient contents is beyond the AAFCO prescribed amounts per serving size, AniFit will send an alert to the owner.

AniFit has been on Kickstarter since February 15th and (at the time of writing) has raised $17,868 of its $30,000 goal with 6 days to go. After the conclusion of the crowdfunding campaign, AniFit is scheduled for a first-wave release in the US and Europe.
