Instagram just announced IGTV, which is their newest platform for longer social media videos. The whole purpose of the platform seems to make it function like another online television channel. Long-form video is the go to tactic for this latest addition, and works in similarity to Instagram Stories.
What is IGTV?
Instagram’s newest foray into showering us with video content will also be available as a standalone app. Only this time, they’re longer. Videos will be full screen and vertical only, and can be up to an hour long.
Soon enough, we’ll be able to see curated content from your usual influencers and even dedicated TV shows and similar content for viewers all over. Right now popular influencers will have access to the one-hour video feature, whereas us regular folk will be able to upload 10-minute videos.
How to use IGTV?
Ease of use is a given for this. The faster you can put out longer content, the better. IGTV starts playing as soon as you launch the app. Users can swipe to discover more content between 4 tabs, For You, Following, Popular and Continue Watching.
It goes without saying that you can comment, like and share these videos via Direct messages.
IGTV, like your television has channels. Each channel is basically every creator ever. Just start one and hope someone watches.
Can I Use IGTV Now?
For now, IGTV is rolling out slowly over the next few weeks on Android and iOS devices.
