Asus launches Zenbook 3 against MacBook

Asus launched a bunch of products at Computex 2016. One of the most impressive launches was the Asus Zenbook 3, the company’s new flagship ultraportable. The Zenbook 3 weighs in at 920g and is 11.9mm thick. This makes it even thinner and lighter than the already super-slim Apple MacBook.

This ultraportable machine is also armed with i5 and i7 processors and makes no excuses on performance on the move. It comes with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB PCIe SSD. The Zenbook 3 also has a USB Type C port for fast charging thanks to the Thunderbolt technology. Also present is a fingerprint scanner built into the corner of the touchpad.

Asus’s distinctive spun metal finish makes a return to this model. Asus credits the incredible weight loss to a “new aerospace-grade aluminium alloy”, which is also 40 per cent stronger than the material that is usually used in other ultrabooks.

The Zenbook 3 makers claim it can dish out 9 hours of usage and should be able to top out 60 per cent of the battery in 49 minutes thanks to the fast charging mentioned earlier. All in all, the Zenbook 3 looks and sounds impressive. It’s amazing how much Asus has managed to squeeze into the tiny frame at a cheaper price of $999 (Dh3,669) than its Apple counterpart.

What do you think? Would you get the Zenbook 3 over the MacBook or is the MacBook still the king?
