Apple UAE trade-ins ahead of Gitex

Apple iPhone recall
Time to upgrade? Make some money while you're doing so

Ahead of Gitex Shopper Spring, Apple has sneakily launched a trade-in programme in the UAE. Maybe it’s a sign of the slowing regional economy.

You could walk away with as much as Dh1,400 towards the price of a new device, according to a note on the Apple website.

With the iPhone 5SE and the new iPad Air due this month, it’s a handy way to make some money off your old phone, instead of leaving it to collect dust in a drawer somewhere.

If you’re looking to upgrade, simply head on over to the brand’s store in Mall of the Emirates, where you the phone will be evaluated on the spot. If you’re happy with the amount offered, you can instantly put the cash towards a new device.

“Trade in your current smartphone and get credit to use toward the purchase of a new iPhone. Just bring your smartphone to an Apple Store for instant credit or trade it in online for an Apple Store Gift Card,” Apple says on its in UAE Store website.

Be warned, though: buybacks are linked to the specific device brought in, a rep confirmed. So if you bring in a phone, you can only use the cash towards a new phone.

The store will also repair broken products and recycle old ones.

Gitex Shopper Spring takes place from March 30 to April 2. The exhibition serves as a massive clearance sale for retailers looking to clear their shelves – and offers many new products at unbeatable deals.
