Aero-X: A real-life Star Wars speeder

Aero-X Star Wars
Rey on her speeder in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

If you’re a Star Wars fan, this article is really going to tickle your fancy. Remember the bit in The Force Awakens when Rey finishes her scavenger hunt on Jakka and hops onto her speeder? How about that 74-Z Speeder Bike chase on Endor in Return of the Jedi? Yeah, we all love those speeders. Thanks to Star Wars events taking place in a galaxy far, far away, it’s common for people to think such tech is too. But it isn’t. Enter the Aero-X.

Aero-XThis vehicle took 15 years to develop, rides like a motorcycle when on the ground but can also hover up to ten feet off the ground, which is even higher than Rey’s speeder. It’s powered by a water-cooled 240-horsepower engine and two large rotors. The Aero-X can attain speeds of up to 72kph, seats two passengers and can also carry up to 140kg.

As a result of this extended research and development period, we’re assured the Aero-X will be safe and easy to control.

The Aero-X is currently available on preorder for a refundable $5,000 (Dh18,375) deposit. The final unit is scheduled to be available in 2017 at the price of $85,000.

Now this isn’t just some fan-made vehicle. It can be adapted for unlimited outdoor uses: surveying, search and rescue, border patrol, disaster relief, aerial agricultural, ranching, and more.

It’s also really, really cool.
