Samsung has started the new year with the launch of its new flagship processor, the Exynos 9 Series 9810. The processor, which will power the soon-to-be-launched Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, comes with improved processing capabilities and an inclusion of neural networking and deep learning.
Samsung Exynos 9810: What’s inside?
The processor is Samsung’s second generation of hardware built with 10nm process technology. The processor has a brand-new eight-core CPU under its hood, four of which are powerful third-generation custom cores that can reach 2.9GHz, with the other four optimised for efficiency. With an architecture that broadens the pipeline and improves cache memory, single-core performance is enhanced two-fold and multi-core performance is increased by around 40 per cent compared to its predecessor.

One of the main new features that has everyone turning heads and giggling is the “cutting-edge technology” that allows “the processor to accurately recognise people or items in photos for fast image searching or categorisation, or through depth sensing, scan a user’s face in 3D for hybrid face detection. By utilising both hardware and software, hybrid face detection enables realistic face-tracking filters as well as stronger security when unlocking a device with one’s face.” So Animoji and Face ID?
Another thing Samsung is promising with the new processors is a better camera with “out-of-focus” image processing and advanced stabilisation for images and video of up to UHD resolution. Get ready for even better Bokeh on the S9.
Finally, the last major update on the processor is in its LTE Modem. The Exynos 9810 will come with “the first Cat.18 LTE modem to support up to 6x carrier aggregation (CA) for 1.2Gbps downlink and 200 megabits per second (Mbps) uplink”. So don’t worry about the large 4K media you’re going to record. Downloading and uploading them should be a breeze.
Samsung flagship devices come with both Exynos as well as Qualcomm processors. The only concern now will be to see which processor the Middle East gets. Fingers crossed for the Exynos!
