Samsung has launched the Samsung Gear Fit2 and Gear IconX in the region. The South Korean tech titan seems to be continuing its foray into the world of fitness. That’s why they’ve tied up with the popular Fitness First.
Samsung Gear Fit2
Featuring an ergonomic, sleek and slim design for everyday use, the Tizen-driven Gear Fit2 sports a Super AMOLED curved display with a 1.5-inch 311PPI high-resolution colour touchscreen for easy fitness monitoring, checking and responding to notifications. The embedded GPS and heart rate sensors include the Auto Activity Tracking feature, which intelligently identifies whether you are running, walking, cycling, or on a rowing machine or elliptical trainer. The device also supports transfer of fitness data between S Health and other select fitness applications. With an internal storage capacity of 4GB, the Gear Fit2 is compatible with smartphones running Android 4.4 or newer with more than 1.5GB RAM. It’s available in three colours (dark grey, blue and pink) and two sizes — one for wrist sizes 125-170mm and the other for wrist sizes 155-210mm.
“The Gear Fit2 keeps you connected to important email, SnS and text notifications when tethered to your phones, while you can receive calls on the Gear IconX,” says Tarek Sabbagh, Head of IT and Mobile at Samsung Gulf Electronics. “Apart from being stellar standalone music players, both devices are designed to maximise consumers’ fitness experiences and their overall well-being. Our exclusive partnership with Fitness First will inspire people to best utilize the tracking data of their daily health delivered by the devices.”
Samsung Gear IconX
The Gear IconX provides a lightweight, secure and comfortable fit with three different sizes of ear tips and wing tips, and can be activated by placing the earbuds in the user’s ears. The smart earbuds also track data such as distance, speed, duration, heart rate and calories burned, easily syncing with S Health. A voice guide feature provides instant vocal feedback on the user’s workout progress while providing a standalone music listening experience. With Bluetooth capability and an internal storage that can play up to 1,000 MP3s, users can simply tap or swipe the earbuds to easily control the music.
Free month at Fitness First
As part of the launch, purchasing either device entitles the buyer to a complimentary month of membership at Fitness First.
Existing members can take home the lightweight Level U wireless headphones, which feature 12mm speaker units delivering clear sound through dual-microphone noise reduction and echo cancellation. The offer is valid until end of September 2016.
Availability and pricing
The Gear Fit2 and the Gear IconX are priced at Dh699 each and are available at Samsung stores, select retailers and Fitness First outlets. Targeting fitness enthusiasts, the devices will also be sold at twelve Sun & Sand Sports Stores across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Bahrain.
