Asus had the pleasure of opening Computex 2016 today. Apart from other announcements, the company launched the third-generation of the ZenFone series. The updated series will have the ZenFone 3, ZenFone Deluxe and ZenFone 3 Ultra, which will range between $249 (Dh914) and $499 (Dh1,832).
Asus ZenFone 3
The ZenFone 3 will have the Snapdragon 652 supported by 3GB or 4GB of RAM depending on whether you get the 32 or 64GB storage options. A 5.5-inch IPS LCD, a USB Type-C charging port, fingerprint scanner on the back and a 3,000mAh battery are some of the specs of the device. Audio is upgraded thanks to a loud 5-magnet speaker and a NXP smart amp. The 16MP rear camera and the 8MP front facer include laser-assisted autofocus, phase detection autofocus, 4-axis OIS, a dual-tone flash, and super resolution mode (64MP). All these features are neatly packaged using brushed metal and glass at the price of $249 (Dh914).
ZenFone 3 Deluxe
Deluxe, you ask? Yep, this is the upgraded, top-of-the-line, premium offering from Asus this year. A metallic back with 4.mm thickness on the curved sides. Invisible antenna lines on the back and a 5.7-inch AMOLED HD display on the front. Asus claims the Zenfone 3 Deluxe offers 100 per cent NTSC colour space, which means excellent colour accuracy. A Snapdragon 820 processor supported by 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage is available. The device will have a USB Type C port with Quick Charge 3.0 as well as USB 3.0 connectivity and the all-new 23MP IMX318 sensor from Sony (making Asus the first on the market with the sensor). The camera has the same features as the ZenFone 3, in addition to the Enhanced Super Resolution mode, which in this case is 96MP. The ZenFone 3 Deluxe will be available in three colours – black, gold and a sexy electric blue called Chi – and will start at $499 (Dh1,832).
ZenFone 3 Ultra
Now we know that a lot of brands like to have giant phablets in their phone series, but Asus took that a step ahead with the ZenFone 3 Ultra. It stands tall with a massive 6.8-inch IPS LCD display panel with a 1080p Full HD resolution. Internal specs include Snapdragon 652, 4GB RAM, Quick Charge 3.0, USB 2.0, same cameras as the ZenFone 3 Deluxe, and a gigantic 4,600mAh power bank, which can also reverse-charge other devices.
Considering that anyone buying this device would be focusing on the screen size and its usage for video, Asus integrated a TV grade PixelWorks iris2+, dual speakers, and DTS Headphone: X 7.1 surround sound. The ZenFone 3 Ultra will start at $479 (Dh1,759).
