Razer’s 27-inch Raptor monitor might be a gamer’s dream

The new Raptor from Razer looks sharp, pun intended

Razer has become a leading gaming brand for many. And today, it announced its all new 27-inch gaming monitor, the Raptor.

It will be showcased at the ongoing CES 2019 with production units to come later this year.

E-sports ready

The Razer Raptor features a custom-calibrated WQHD (2,560 x 1,440p) IPS edge-to-edge 27-inch panel. It has slim 2.3mm bezels and offers ultra-wide viewing angles. Featuring AMD’s Radeon Freesync adaptive sync technology, you get a fast response rate between 1ms (with Motion Blur reduction) and 7ms. And with the 144Hz refresh rate, the monitor ensures fluid gaming and satisfies most requirements of an e-sports professional.

Its display comes with a 95 per-cent DCI-P3 wide colour gamut and HDR support. And in terms of brightness, the panel can go up to 420 nits. With colour profiles for gaming, movies and productivity, the monitor is ideal for gamers and prosumers alike.

Design

The matte black Raptor sports a forged aluminium base with a fabric and metal back plate for extra flair. Like on many high-end Razer products, its Chroma-powered LED strips light up the monitor’s base. These can be customized using the Razer Synapse 3 application. With it, you can synchronize its lights with your other Razer Chroma gear.

Cable management is also made simple with the Raptor. It is height adjustable and the backward 90-degree tilt feature is useful. With both of these, I/O port access is made easier, while the built-in CNC milled channels at the back of the monitor base allow for a clean look. You can use these to hide the five unique Razer green performance cables that come with the monitor.

Connectivity

Razer offers a good selection of ports on the Raptor for connectivity. This includes a DisplayPort, HDMI, USB-C (which includes power transfer) and two USB-A 3.1 ports.

To increase productivity, the monitor will also support picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture input capabilities. This will allow the monitor to display multiple inputs simultaneously. Additionally, the USB-C port includes power delivery so you can charge low wattage devices via the monitor.

Pricing and availability

Razer’s new 27-inch Raptor gaming monitor will be priced at $699 (Dh2,567). It will be available to purchase via Razer’s official website in the US and Canada later this year. We will keep an eye out on if it makes it to the local market.
